It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), MARC, VRE or any other transit operator.

Hosting

The site runs on a virtual private server provided by Contabo GmbH, Welfenstrasse 22, 81541 Munich, Germany (contabo.com). The server is located in Contabo's data center in St. Louis, Missouri, United States.

How we work

  • Schedule and service data come from public feeds published by WMATA (Metrorail and Metrobus), the Maryland Transit Administration (MARC), Virginia Railway Express and Lyft (Capital Bikeshare). Our servers download them, store them and compute trips on our own server. See data sources.
  • Guides (airports, fares and SmarTrip, MARC and VRE, Capital Bikeshare, accessibility) are written from official sources only. Each page lists its sources and the date we last checked them. When we cannot confirm a fact on an official page, we leave it out.
  • No paid placement: we do not accept payment to rank a service or rewrite a recommendation.
  • Our own design: our logo and line badges are our own, and our maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap data. We do not use agency logos, official route symbols or official maps.

Independence

DCTransit is an independent website and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the Maryland Transit Administration (MARC), Virginia Railway Express (VRE), or Lyft/Capital Bikeshare. Transit data is obtained from public open data feeds and stored on our servers; it may not be accurate, complete or real time and is provided as is. Agency names are used only to describe their services. For official information, use the operators' own channels.

We cannot answer questions about lost property, refunds, SmarTrip cards or tickets, or complaints about a transit service: please contact the operator directly.
